Update 2-18-16
This sample project was a nook cover for my mother, who bought her first nook a couple of years ago, and was wanting a prettier cover than what she could find commercially. I used 2 different pieces of scrap lace that I had been given from a friend that no longer needed the piles of odds and ends that they had. The next time I make a cover, I will be using lace that isn't as wide as the main white lace, as it can make closing and latching the cover a bit difficult. I thought the pink trim lace matched the background fabric very well. The cross stitching was done by me, on 14 count white Adias fabric, with the pattern from a book borrowed from our public library. Threads were from a verity of manufactures, since I was also using leftovers and odds and ends given to me by another friend. It has held up very well over the last year and a half or so. I haven't had to make any repairs to the cover, and Mom has washed it a few times without any bleeding from the threads. The Adias fabric and background lace was attached to the front panel with fuse-able interfacing, and then machine stitched through the pink trim lace, Adias fabric, and white background lace for added durability. Additionally, there is interfacing between the front and back panels of the cover, and all seams are double stitched at the stress points, expect the section where the cover was turned inside out, where it is very tightly whip-stitched The only other change I would make in the next cover would be to make the pocket wider, and include a slot with elastic at the interior end so that the kickstand can be used without having to take the nook out of the cover. |
